On 10th August, Twitter’s standalone app for live-streaming video, Periscope, announced that it has touched the milestone of 10 million users and two million daily active users watching 40 years of broadcasts a day. That equates to 21 million minutes every 24 hours.
The app enables a user to film live video captured through their smartphone to their fellow Periscope users, and promote the stream on Twitter to attract more viewers.
The company reached that gigantic number about four months after it launched the application. Periscope hit 1 million users in its first 10 days.
Periscope has attracted a huge list of celebrity users, including Jimmy Fallon, Tyra Banks and Al Roker and looking at the current scenario and growth factor, it will travel a large track.
Periscope’s main rival this year has been Meerkat, which launched shortly before it on both iPhone and Android, but saw its access to Twitter’s social graph cut off – hampering its ability to help users follow friends’ account.
