Twitter simplifies conversations, as replies will no longer count toward your Tweet’s 140 characters. The social network made these big changes to tweet replies on March 30, 2017.

The company announced that whenever you now reply to a group of Twitter users or individual, then you will have more characters to work with, that is all 140 characters. The user names will not be subtracted from the tweet’s 140 character count.

With this change on tweet character limits it is also changing the appearance of your replies. From now, you will be seeing a line ‘Replying to @username’ which will appear above the actual tweet and below the account handle, instead of showing the user name at the beginning of the tweets.

Twitter said in its official blog post, “Remember how we told you we were working on ways to let you to express more with 140 characters? Since then, we’ve introduced twoupdates, and today we’re rolling out another. Now, when you reply to someone or a group, those @usernames won’t count toward your Tweet’s 140 characters.”

In addition, now Twitter will let you manage to which accounts you want to reply to in the conversation, when you tap on the reply button to tweet the replies.

These changes are rolling out for the Twitter site, iOS and Android apps, and are based on feedback and research. When the network tested these changes, it observed higher engagement rate for conversations.
