Snapdeal owned mobile wallet service, FreeCharge, has partnered with McDonald to let customers pay directly from their mobile wallets at 216 McDonald restaurants across 26 cities in west and south India.

“We worked closely with McDonald’s to deliver a ‘built to order’ product, the transactions are done within 10 seconds and we have developed an innovative on-the-go pin, with which the customers can generate a code on their app even if not connected to the internet,” said Govind Rajan, COO at FreeCharge.

Customers can order both online and offline using the digital payment wallet, in addition to this through the partnership. The service has gone live starting January 14, 2016 across all these restaurants.

According to Kunal Shah, the founder of FreeCharge, a step towards expanding the digital payment wallets footprint to the offline use cases is another indication of how the offline to online platform is blurring. He adds that millennials don’t want to wait in queues to make an order, the quicker the payment occurs, more consumers are likely to shift to digital payment wallets for ordering their meals.

FreeCharge earlier had entered into a partnership with fashion retailer Shoppers Stop in November 2015. FreeCharge claims to have over 30 million registered users and 15 million active wallet users on its wallet, launched in September 2015, which is available on the App Store, Play Store and Windows Store.
