You would now be able to chat and make calls from your desktops without opening your browser if you are Google Hangouts users as Google has rolled out a new desktop app for Chrome OS and Windows users. The company also announced new social polling features for Google+.
As far as chats and notifications are concerned, they will automatically be synced between the desktop and mobile app, as the desktop app allows chats and calls to run independently of a web browser.
“The app has a streamlined design that keeps your chats accessible without getting in the way of everything else,” Google wrote in a blog post. “Your contact list and all your chats are condensed into one easy to toggle window.”

The Hangouts’ voice and video calls are also supported by the desktop app. It also includes the Google’s recently improved Hangouts dialer. Not just that if you are a Google voice user, even you can make and receive calls, listen to voicemails and read SMS messages via your Google Voice number from within the app. However, those already using the Hangouts via the Chrome extension will get a prompt to try the new desktop experience as per Google.
A new Polls feature for Google+ on the web and iOS and Android app has also been unveiled by Google. You can directly create the Polls from Hangouts and can also include photos, GIFs or links to Google image searches.
