On January 18, 2017, Google announced that it has acquired technology assets from Twitter. The most noteworthy acquisition is of mobile application development platform, Fabric .

Crashlytics (crash-reporting platform), Answers (mobile app analytics tool), Digits (SMS login system) and Fastlane (development automation system) are the other assets of Twitter acquired by Google.

Both the companies did not disclose the terms of the transaction for the deal. The Fabric team will also join the Google’s Firebase team.

Rich Paret, Fabric Vice President of Engineering and General Manager wrote in a blog post: “When we met the team at Google, we quickly realized that our missions are the same–helping mobile teams build better apps, understand their users and grow their businesses. Fabric and Firebase operate mobile platforms with unique strengths in the market today. We’re excited to combine these platforms together to make the best mobile developer platform in the world for app teams.”

And, Francis Ma, Firebase product manager added in a blog post, “Today, we’re excited to announce that we’ve signed an agreement to acquire Fabric to continue the great work that Twitter put into the platform. Fabric will join Google’s Developer Product Group, working with the Firebase team. Our missions align closely: Help developers build better apps and grow their business.”

During the transition period, Digits will continue to work under Twitter. By passing the platforms to Google, Twitter is trying to slim down and get into a better financial state.
