Recently, the leading online travel firm Expedia conducted a survey that revealed some real interesting facts about the tech-savvy Indians who have emerged as the most hooked on to gadgets globally. In fact, as per the survey, 95% Indians find their smartphones to be ‘critically important’ while 75% use their smartphone or tablet to book a hotel.

“The findings clearly suggest an increasing dependency on the mobile platform. 95% Indian respondents feel that their smartphone is very or of critical importance to their daily life,” Vikram Malhi, MD, Asia, Expedia said.

The report also revealed that Indians lead when it comes to app booking and data roaming plans globally.

“In fact, 75% of Indians who have used their smartphone or tablet to book a hotel have booked a hotel stay using a mobile app (the highest of any country),” he said.

The survey that was conducted from August 25 to September 17, this year among 8,856 employed adults aged 18 years of age and older across 25 countries , brings to light as to how the Indian traveler have matured and moving promptly up the ladder of travel apps instead of staying hooked with conventional modes of bookings.

Besides, the research also talks about how India has become the second highest number of Google Glass owners at 6% after South Korea at 8%.

For those who perhaps are unaware with what Google Glass is, it is a type of wearable technology, developed by Google with the mission of producing a mass-market ubiquitous computer.

Not just that, the report also tells that the country has the highest number of Smartwatch owners globally, with 18% of them owning/using the device.

Talking about the laptop usage in the country, with 85% Indians currently having and using a laptop, India is the fourth highest in the world after Denmark (89%), Austria (86%) and Norway (86%), as per the report. However, when it comes to carrying laptops on leisure trips, with 47% Indian doing that India ranks second highest after UAE (48%), according to the survey.

“India ranked fifth in number of people saying they always bring their smartphone with them on leisure trips, with 88% of Indians who have at least one mobile device saying they always travel with their smartphone on leisure trips, and 38% say they always travel with a tablet,” it says.
