sweepers

Unemployment has gripped the country so much that MBAs, B.Techs have applied for the 114 posts of sweepers in Uttar Pradesh’s Amroha. The salary for Sweeper post is Rs 17,000 per month, while no educational qualifications are required for the posts.

Surprisingly, the application of highly qualified candidates for the post of sweeper has put the UP government on the back foot.  MBAs, B.Techs, B.Sc. are ready to work as a sweeper at a salary of Rs 17,000 per month. “While no educational qualifications are required for the posts, municipal officials have been overwhelmed by the number of highly-qualified applicants so far.

Faiz Alam, superintendent of Amroha Nagar Palika said, “The process of uploading application forms for all 114 posts is still going on and we have uploaded 5,000 of the 19,000 received. Most are graduates, postgraduates, B.Techs and even MBAs.” For more information on the news click here.

Most recently, a similar case happened in Bhatinda district of Punjab, where for 19 posts of Class IV in district court, 8,500 candidates applied among which a large number was of girls being M.Phils, M.Sc., and B.Techs. For more information on the news click here.

As per the Punjab government data 3.62 lakh youths were registered with employment exchanges in Punjab till December 31, 2014. Out of these, 2.37 lakh are in the age group of 16 to 29. Though there is not any actual data on unemployed youth in Punjab but state congress president Captain Amarinder Singh few days back had asserted that Punjab has nearly 28 lakh unemployed youths.

The same incident came in light few months back in the same state Uttar Pradesh where graduates, postgraduates and even PhD holders were among the 23 lakh applicants who responded to an advertisement seeking applications for 368 posts of peons in the Uttar Pradesh government secretariat in September 2015. Both the state as well as central government should look into the higher education machinery in India and raise the budget for higher education substantially and also the government should find proper way to tackle unemployment in India so that educated manpower can be utilized at the proper place effectively otherwise the condition will be more worsened.
